Apostille History

Apostille is a French word meaning certification. It is commonly used in English to refer to the legalization of a document for international use under the terms of the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Members of the conference adopted a document referred to as an Apostille that would be recognized by all member nations.

Documents sent to member nations, completed with an Apostille at the state level, may be submitted directly to the member nation without further action. As of December 2018, there are 118 member nations.

Examples of common documents requiring authentication are:

Birth, marriage, and death certificates, power of attorney, notarized letter, statement, or affidavit, divorce decree, diploma, degree transcripts, passport, driver license copy, adoption dossier, trademarks, corporation documents, etc.

Non-Hague Countries

Documents going to non-Hague nations require an Apostille and added processing through that countries consulate. We can arrange for delivery to the Department of State and embassy offices.

Pricing

Apostille services start at $160. Please call for details on your specific document and circumstances.
